EFL Program
EFL stands for English as a Foreign Language.
This ministry program was born out of years of requests from nationals to learn English AND as part of God's plan to spread the Good News in Northern Mozambique. It recognizes mozambicans' growing desire to learn English to aid in foreign business, travel, and obtaining higher paying jobs.
In 2022 Brooklyn felt called by God to begin a program that would teach English as a foreign language to the greater Montepuez community. This calling included the use of scripture as the principle text in the classroom. After a year of study and preparation, Brooklyn began the program in September of 2023. This program shares facilities with the INTECADE program on Boa Nova’s property, and is available to all adults in the Montepuez city area.

About the Program
Phase 1
This is an introduction to English. Students in this level know little to no English so Portuguese is sometimes used in class as an aid. This class meets for 2 hours, 3 times a week. Students learn basic vocabulary like colors, numbers, family members, foods, & conversational phrases. The Bible stories in this level come from the old testament. Students learn about Adam & Eve, Noah, Abraham, and Samuel.
Phase 2
This is an lower-intermediate level English course. During this level students learn how to speak, hear, read, and write in the past tense. This class meets for 2 hours, 3 times a week. The Bible stories in this level focus on the life and miracles of Jesus. Students act out, draw, or create questions about these stories. By the end of the term students hear the good news: Jesus died on a cross to forgive us of our sins and He rose from death on the third day. Jesus is the Son of God.
Phase 3
This is an upper-intermediate level English course. Students in this class know English well and learn more difficult concepts like the perfect tenses, idioms, and advanced vocabulary. This class meets once a week for 3.5 hours on Saturdays. Students are given homework to practice their skills during the week. The Bible stories in this class are from the Old Testament. Students read from an actual Bible and learn about creation and the nation of Israel.
Phase 4
This is an advanced English Course. This class meets for 1 hour 3 times a week. The focus of this class is preparation for the international exam that is taken upon completion of this level. Students perfect their grammar and strengthen their vocabulary. During the course, students read through the book of Mark and learn what it means to be a follower of Jesus Christ.
Program History
September 2023
The EFL program held it's first term, offering 2 level 1 classes: one in the morning and one in the afternoon. There was a grand total of 9 combined students; just perfect for a new program. :)
January 2024
The second term included level 2 as well as level 1. The program saw significant growth with a total student count of 36!
May 2024
Term 3 saw continued growth with the addition of level 3 & total student count of 49!
August 2024
At this period of time, Brooklyn was amazed at the growth of this program & all God had done. One of her students was baptized during the fourth term. As Brooklyn prepared for a furlough, she offered one more term (levels 1-3) and had 54 students who were hearing the Good News of Jesus Christ.
June 2025
A large gap has occurred in between sessions due to travel and unforeseen visa issues. During this gap, Brooklyn wrote the 4th and final level of curriculum and for the first time taught all 4 levels at the same time. 45 students registered for classes this term.
November 2025
The program continues to grow with a record of 60 students in 3 different levels!
